In the basement of the house that shouldn't be there, there are kids' handprints on the walls. Rustin Parr's house was burned down decades earlier, yet they end up inside of it at the end of the movie. It's HIS house they end up in, where they're murdered and their equipment and tapes are stashed in the basement/foundation. He's the one terrorizing the protagonists in the woods. So here it is, in a nutshell: The group goes back in time at some point and ends up in those woods in the time when Rustin Parr- the madman who "heard" the Witch talking to him- was murdering children. The latter was released before TBWP was in theaters to build up the lore. If you want some supplements to fill in some details, I recommend Sticks & Stones and The Curse of the Blair Witch.
Now here is what people don't get: It's not a story about a witch. Still a fun memory I was able to create due to that movie. I personally had a blast that night and I'm not sure if Ethan took it personally because it never came up afterwards. I could tell he was getting kind of scared, or unnerved at the very least. The whole while I kept mentioning noises in the woods and seeing shadows move in the darkness and rain, and he started to freak out a little. We walked for a while, in the dark, in the rain, and a little high on mushrooms.
Well I could reach my headlight knob with my knee and made it seem as though my truck was dying by nudging the knob with my knee a few times until I just killed the engine telling him my truck died. We ate some mushrooms and were out on some forestry trails in my truck and it was raining. My friend Ethan thought it was real, and I never let on that I absolutely did not. I remember when this came out and the general public wasn't sure if it was real "found footage" or not, and a lot of people thought it was real. Easily one of my favorite horror movies now. I would say that the simplicity of the movie, the lack of jump scares, absence of music, no physical representation of the witch and a minute amount of characters to follow made for a really incredible movie.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and I would highly recommend it if anyone hasn’t seen it yet. On a side note, the marketing for this movie’s release was genius. It leaves the movie for interpretation and our imagination to run with. I also loved that we didn’t get to see the witch or any real physical representation of the evil. If you’re running around scared in the woods then you’re not going to be holding the camera steady. I know that a lot of viewers don’t like the shaky camera, but I for one think it adds to the “genuine” aspect of the movie. It all feels so much more genuine and real that way. The eerie sounds coming from the woods, children’s sounds during that one tent scene, the lack of music, etc. I really enjoy the sound design of the movie a lot.
